Anova Adirondack
Caleb Hallock | Professional Client Project | Year 3
Design prompt:
Client was looking to design an Adirondack style chair for a target audience of users ages 65 and older. Initially they had instructed us to focus on trying to fit our designs into current product offerings of the company, but decided later on that we work with extruded recycled plastic or thermally treated wood.
Initial research contributions:
The initial research was divided amongst the class and my priorities were on material research, finishes research, and current manufacturing processes of the client.
My findings (seen above) helped frame the initial prompt before changing design direction.

First round concepts:
My first round concepts all focused on designing around current product offerings and what I could do to incorporate those established lines. In addition to attempting to fit the form and feel of the current offerings, I also worked to match manufacturing techniques and finishes as well.
However, after the shift in direction, the initial ideated concepts had to be thrown out and started fresh.

second round conceptS:
The second round of concepts were closer to what the client was hoping for. These were my attempts at the change of direction.
I tried using multiple different assembly methods such as dovetail constructions or utilizing metal inserts and bolts to extend the life of the materials being used. I also tried utilizing a bit of bent sheet metal and an existing pattern of the clients to put a little bit of the client into the design itself.

Continuation
This project was done by Anova Furnishings which provided me the opportunity to put some extra time into creating additional imagery while they worked to release full plastic versions of the design.
All imagery below was done in Keyshot as I continue to work at improving my scene insertion and render composition skills.
